EN[...] Research problem of the article is formulated as the following question: how are individualistic motives (in aspect of benefits) regarding participation in activities of CSOs expressed and what tendency of changes in individualistic motives is identified in empirical researches in Lithuania? Research aim is to analyse/reveal changes in individualistic motives to participate in CSOs in the as pect of benefits. Research objectives are: to provide a theoretical review of individualistic motives to participate in CSOs in the aspect of benefits; to reveal empirical facts regarding individualistic motives to participate in CSOs by comparing results of research carried out by Tijūnaitienė in 2007 with results of similar research carried out by other scientists in 2008-2013, focusing on social demographic characteristics. Research logic. Most of the results of the research carried out by Tijūnaitienė in 2007 are presented in publications by Tijūnaitienė and Balčiūnas (2010), Tijūnaitienė and Bersenaitė (2011), Tijūnaitienė, Neverauskas and Balčiūnas (2009a, b). Therefore, this article presents only the data revealed in the course of dissertation research but not presented in the said publications; however, these data are compared to results of research by other scholars and evaluated against changes until 2013. [...]Nevertheless, comparison of results of researches by different scholars also highlighted some contradictions between the factor of education and the assessments of motives for participation. Depending on the context (cultural, geographical, etc), changes in assessments of motives for participation are revealed: with persons of different levels of education getting involved in CSO activities a tendency to motivate participation in CSO by the opportunity to „gain new knowledge, competences, share personal knowledge and experience, realise one's personal potential etc.“, which might have not been possible to accomplish in usual setting, with the education gained, gets increasingly more prominent.
