ENThis article examines 7,842 jokes from the late nineteenth to the midtwentieth centuries, the Soviet period, and contemporary times that are preserved in the Lithuanian Literature and Folklore Institutes Folklore Archives' manuscript collections (LTR), collected from the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth centuries, in the Vytautas Magnus University archives (VDU ER), and which appear on joke websites. Focusing on the target of mockery, the goal of this study is to determine how the joking person (homo ridens) is similar and different in the late nineteenth and early twenty-first centuries.
