Summary / Abstract:

LTLietuvos kaip ir kitų šalių istorija prasidėjo ją amžininkam pirmą kartą paminėjus rašytiniuose šaltiniuose. Tai beveik vienu metu XI a. įvyko Vakarų ir Rytų Europoje. Lietuva, didėjo ir mažėjo, keitėsi jos gyventojų sudėtis ir politinė padėtis. Dar labiau keitėsi Lietuvos valstybė. Kaip ir kitų valstybių istorijoje, Lietuvos valstybės ir jos subjekto -lietuvių tautos praeityje vieni kitus keitė palyginti ramūs ir dažniausiai ilgalaikiai evoliucinės raidos etapai ir tarsi suspausti laike, įvykių prisodrinti, trumpi radikalių permainų laikotarpiai. Tokių laikotarpių buvo tolimoje praeityje, kaip antai valstybės susidarymas XIII a. pirmojoje pusėje, Jogailos ir Vytauto laikai XIV-XV a. sandūroje, XVI a. 7-ojo dešimtmečio reformų ir unijos su Lenkija metas, bendros Lenkijos ir Lietuvos valstybės paskutiniai gyvavimo metai XVIII a. pabaigoje. Daugiausia jų buvo XX a., galima sakyti, kad didžioji šio amžiaus dalis yra tokie pagreitintos raidos laikotarpiai: tautinė 1905 m. revoliucija, Lietuvos valstybės atkūrimo laikotarpis (1915/1918-1920/1923), Lietuvos likimo peripetijos per II pasaulinį karą (1939-1945), kruvinas pirmasis pokario dešimtmetis (1944/ 1945-1953), Pertvarkos (Perestroikos) ir Lietuvos valstybės atkūrimo laikai (1987-1991). Dėl XX a. didžiulės reikšmės lietuvių tautai ir jos valstybei, šiam amžiui skiriama daugiau dėmesio negu kitiems. Knyga užbaigiama Lietuvos valstybės atkūrimu 1990 – 1991 metais, kai Lietuva tapo pasaulio valstybių šeimos dalimi.

ENLithuania’s history, like that of other countries, began when it was first mentioned in written sources. This occurred at roughly the same time in the 11th century in Western and Eastern Europe. Lithuania expanded and contracted, its demographical profile and political situation changed. The Lithuanian State changed even more. As with the history of other states, the State of Lithuania and its subjects, the Lithuanian nation in the past has had relatively peaceful and long periods of evolutionary development and rather short periods of events of radical change. These times were furthest in the past, such as the formation of other states in the first half of the 13th century, the times of Jogaila and Vytautas from the 14th – 15th centuries, the reforms of the 1670s and union with Poland at this time and the existence of a joint Polish-Lithuanian state at the end of the 18th century. The majority of them were in the 20th century and it can be said that this period is one of accelerated development: the national revolution of 1905, the periods of creating the Lithuanian state (1915/1918 – 1920/1923) the fate of Lithuania’s peripatetic through WW2 (1939-1945), the bloody first decade after the war (1944/5-1953), Perestroika and the creation of the Lithuanian state (1987-1991). Because of the great significance of the 20th century for the Lithuanian people and state, this century is given more attention than others. The book ends with the creation of the Lithuanian state in 1990-1991, when Lithuania became a part of the family of world states.
