ENIntercultural competence is becoming a must, as, in the process of formation of a multicultural society, homogeneity is declining fast under the impact of globalization. The research in intercultural competence is relevant both nationally and internationally. The intercultural competence is especially significant for teacher‘s professional activity in the assessment of current changes in the educational environment, and it is also relevant due to the recorded number of children from mixed marriages in pre-school educational institutions. Teachers have to be both prepared for work in a multicultural group or classroom and able to create an intercultural interaction in it and also be able to develop children‘s intercultural competence, given the cultural diversity of children in the group. The research aim: to analyze and determine the level of intercultural competence expression, while working in a multicultural pre-school education group. Research tasks: To determine the level of intercultural competence expression, while working in a multicultural pre-school education group. To identify the opinion of parents from mixed families on peculiarities of communication and cooperation with teachers of pre-school education institutions. Research methods: analysis of scientific literature and documents, a written survey statistic data analysis, semi-structured interview, content analysis approach. The survey in writing was carried out during the quantitative research. It involved 42 teachers from pre-school education institutions, working in pre-school education institutions Klaipėda city. The qualitative research involved 5 informants, 4 parents from mixed families, and 1 father from an immigrant family. The research results showed that teachers of pre-school education institutions perceive the concept of “intercultural competence” as an ability to work with various people, despite their religion, belief, race differences, to seek discovering similarities and differences between different cultures, and as knowledge about culture, customs, traditions, history, language of one’s own and other country. Teachers of pre-school education institutions describe a multicultural group as a group of children with different nationalities, races, religions, and cultures. The quantitative research results showed that teachers of pre-school education institutions evaluate their intercultural competence as average. It should be noted that teachers of pre-school education institutions rarely use knowledge about religion, educational system, traditions of other cultures in pre-school education institutions, educational methods, while working in a multicultural group. A notable fact is that there are some religious and racial intolerance cases in a group of pre-school education.
