Summary / Abstract:

ENThe necessity to found ways for education management specialists training in Lithuania arises from the new educational policy challenges for school self-management, competition for clients, funding shortages. Most present school heads have only teaching qualification but good teaching do not means good school management Thus a need for all levels educational leaders training in management is evident A few universities started an implementation of master degree study programs for education leaders already. It is important to evaluate existing foreign and Lithuanian experience and to promote strategy for further improvement of education organizations leaders training. The aim of the present study was to develop strategy for promotion of education organizations leaders training in Lithuania. The research was based on the analysis and comparison of the foreign and Lithuanian practices. First of all, the analysis of foreign experiences was done concerning preparation for headship in USA and in West Europe states. The main issues were the characteristic features that form a picture of the effective school leader (knowledge, skills, competences, personal characteristics). Lithuanian efforts should be concentrated to describe the main characteristics of the school leaders that should be developed through training process.Models of education organizations leaders training in foreign countries were studied in the second chapter (short-time studies, mentorship, residency, compound (dual), master degree studies). It was stated that a variety of educational leaders training models in a single country was encouraged. Important role of experienced school heads as mentors and effectively working schools as places for practice periods were emphasized as having considerable role in school leaders professional qualification growth. Lithuanian master degree studies for educational leaders do not have mentorship or school practice periods. Approaches towards the problems of how best practice outside education (industry and commerce management) could be used in education leaders training, general management and education management integration were discussed taking into account weak social partnership between educational system and business world in the present Lithuania. At the end of the article the experience of Klaipeda University in education management specialists training was investigated aspiring for further education management specialists training strategy improvement in the Lithuania.
