LTProfesorė, habilituota humanitarinių mokslų daktarė Bronislava Kerbelytė (1935-2024) yra viena iškiliausių XX a. II p - XXI a. pr. Lietuvos folklorisčių, svariai prisidėjusi formuojant modernųjį tautosakos tyrimų mokslų teoriniu, metodologiniu ir praktiniu taikomuoju aspektais. Deja, iki jubiliejinės 90-ojo gimtadienio sukakties mokslininkei pritrūko kelių mėnesių. Gyvenimą suskliaudžiančios gimimo ir mirties datos ne tik chronologiškai įrėmina nueitą gyvenimo kelią, bet ir skatina atidžiau žvilgtelėti į tame folkloristikos kelyje įmintus gilius pėdsakus. Straipsnis skirtas trumpai pristatyti pagrindinius B. Kerbelytės mokslinės biografijos faktus ir aptarti svarbiausius jos mokslinės veiklos aspektus folkloristikos mokslo kontekste. ENProfessor Bronislava Kerbelytė (1935-2024) was one of the most prominent Lithuanian folklorists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. She made a significant contribution to the development of modern folklore studies in theory, methodology, and practice. Kerbelytė passed away a few months before her 90th birthday, which was to be celebrated in January 2025. This anniversary prompts reflection on her influence on Lithuanian folklore studies. The article presents key facts about Kerbelytės academic life and discusses the main aspects of her work. It also offers a contextual assessment of her scholarly, pedagogical, and dissemination activities. Because she studied Russian philology in Moscow, her academic thinking was influenced by the Russian school of folklore studies. Therefore, Kerbelytė can also be regarded as a representative of Slavic studies in Lithuania. Critical reflection on folkloristics, extensive knowledge of folk traditions, and a fluent, precise writing style characterises her publications. She contributed to collecting, systematising, and publishing folklore texts. Her most notable achievement was the development of an original structural-semantic method for analysing and describing texts, which became the foundation for the card index and the Catalogue of Lithuanian Narrative Folklore at the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore. She also explored the application of machine-based mathematical modelling for folklore systematisation. Although innovative, her structuralist method did not see widespread adoption due to the complexity of its analytical procedures. Born and raised in a Lithuanian village rich in ancient traditions, Kerbelytė brought authentic folk knowledge into scholarship, strengthened it through research, and shared it throughout her life.
