Summary / Abstract:

Reikšminiai žodžiai: Globalizacija; Ekonominės Laisvės Indeksas; Ekonominė plėtra ir augimas.; Globalization; Globalization drivers; Index of Economic Freedom; Economic development and growth.

ENThe accelerating changes of business environment raise the necessity of new perception of economic development in long-term perspective and evaluation of the globalization of markets, which has been manifesting itself quite rapidly. The driving force behind the globalization processes, which are encouraged by the growing market needs and reducing trade barriers between national economies, is the global economy. Is the present-day position of Lithuanian companies, when entering the new global environment, significantly influenced by their ability to quickly adapt in the global space and use favourable possibilities of increasing the economic efficiency, provided by the global market? The significance of the most important driving forces behind globalization and their interaction in the global environment must be included into the present-day debate on the globalization trends in Lithuania considering the context of macroeconomic indicators. The present-day position of Lithuanian companies when entering the global environment is significantly influenced by their possibilities of adapting to the requirements, raised by the global market. In the processes of global development, Lithuanian small and medium sized companies depend on the international trade, which is one the most important driving forces behind globalization. The present-day trends show that, despite a small local market, the increasing efficiency of economic relations results in a rapid growth of volumes of export and import. The driving forces behind globalization allowed Lithuanian companies to develop their export markets, develop technologies and reach higher efficiency, therefore in the global economy conditions one should reach not only for short-term competitive advantage, but also resolve the issues of increasing of competitiveness on the global markets in the long-term perspective by timely and appropriately responding to the driving forces behind globalization.
