Summary / Abstract:

ENThe object of thus research is the peculiarities of communication and listening skills of sport pedagogues. The aim of the work is to identity the level of communication and listening skills of sport pedagogues. To reach this goal the following tasks were set: 1) to compare the level of communication skills of pedagogues-beginners and experienced-pedagogues; and 2) to compare listening skills of pedagogues-beginners and experienced-pedagogues. The research hypothesis: the level of communication and listening skills among experienced-pedagogues is higher than those among pedagogues-beginners. The surveyed pedagogues filled in a questionnaire on their communication skills (Miškinis, 2002) and listening skills (Martens, 1999). To research communication skills a "Questionnaire on communication skills" was used. The questionnaire included 51 questions. To which they responded "Yes" or "No" by marking the response. For each response identical to the key response 1 point was given. Communication skills were evaluated as follows: 38 and more points - good; 30-37 points - satisfactory; and 0-29 points - weak. To research listening skills R. Martens‘ questionnaire was applied. The surveyed were given 14 statements to which they replied by marking one of four possible answers: "never" - 1 point; "rarely" - 2 points; "sometimes" - 3 points; and "often" - 4 points. Listening skills were evaluated as follows: 14-34 points - good; 35-44 points - satisfactory; and 45- and more points - weak.To process the results of the research on communication and listening skills the following methods of mathematical statistics were applied: Student‘s t test, and X2 test. In order to identity the peculiarities of communication and listening skills of sport pedagogues we teachers and coaches from Kaunas were selected. The sample included 27 pedagogues beginners and 29 experienced-pedagogues. In total, 56 persons were surveyed. An average rate of communication skills among experienced-pedagogues was 33.86 ± 5.12 point and the among pedagogues-beginners - 31.23 ± 4.88 point. Having applied the Student‘s t test, it was set that the level of communication skills of experienced-pedagogues is higher than that pedagogues-beginners and the said differences are statistically significant (t = -1.97; p <0.05). The level of listening skills among experienced-pedagogues and among pedagogues-beginners was also statistically significantly different (t = 1.98; p <0.05). An average rate of listening skills of experienced-pedagogues was 35.16 ± 4.87 points, while of pedagogues-beginners - 37.58 ± 4.24 point. The fewer points were given to a tested person during the research, the higher evaluation is attributed to his/her listening skills was. Accordingly, listening skills of experienced-pedagogues are better compared to that of pedagogues-beginners. Having completed the research on the peculiarities of communication of sport pedagogues we may assume that the level of communication and listening skills among experienced-pedagogues is higher than among pedagogues-beginners.
