ENPoliticians, government representatives react to the problems of young people and the abundancy of legal acts adopted proves it, however, work with young people is still problematic. Researchers state that work with young people with fewer opportunities should be focussed, open and oriented not only towards an individual or his / her characteristics but also to the whole environment. Thus, a problematic issue of the article is what are the actual problems of socio-educational work with young people with fewer opportunities? The aim of the article is to highlight the news of socio-educational work with young people with fewer opportunities. The methods of research such as literature analysis, systematization, synthesis, generalization are used in the article. The article includes two main parts. The first part analyses the theories presenting the risk of young people in order to clarify the reasons why young people behave in risky ways. The second part highlights the influence of social environment to young people, presents models of socio-educational activity, highlights socio-educational provisions, discloses non-formal socio-educational work with young people, the need for innovative methods and tools. The analysis of sociological and psychological theories revealed that the risky behaviour of young people is biologically unavoidable, so it can be assumed that young people will always be at risk. Risks have two sides: both have the chance of success and failure. The disadvantaged development of the social environment reduces the chances of successful functioning and therefore the systemic multi-directional socio-educational work with young people with fewer opportunities is relevant, both in formal and informal social environments. The analysis of the models of socio-education activity revealed that changing social environment also changes the person. A social worker, guided by psychological, sociological or complex models of socioeducational activity, provides professional help, that promotes proper interaction between young people and the environment. However, there is a lack of research to evaluate the social environment of young people as well as lack of clear guidance on social-educational work with young people and their environment, and a lack of socioeducational activities that meet the diversity of socio-educational needs. Actual research of socio-educational work with young people with fewer opportunities in the non-formal social environments. To accomplish this it is not enough individual initiatives it also requires need for cooperation between youth workers, psychologists, educators, cultural workers, politicians, and synergy of competences.
