"Staro-Litwini": kilka uwag na temat socjoetnicznego pochodzenia Polaków na Litwie historycznej

LTMokslinėje literatūroje „senalietuvių“ koncepciją pasiūlė Krzysztofas Buchowskis monografijoje „Litwomani i polonizatorzy“ (Litvomanai ir polonizatoriai). Tačiau ši koncepcija nėra tokia nauja, kaip atrodytų. „Senalietuvių“ terminas, panašiai ir kaip daugybė sociolingvistinių terminų, ribotai atspindėjo vaizduojamąją tikrovę (vadinamoji įsivaizduojamoji tikrovė in spa). Jis buvo vartojamas siekiant interpretuoti istorinės Lietuvos gyventojų etninę kilmę. XIX a. pabaigoje - XX a. pradžioje senalietuviai vadino save vietiniais lenkais arba vietiniais baltarusiais, net kitų tautybių atstovais (pavyzdžiui, žydais, totoriais ar rusais) ir nereiškė grynų lietuvių dabartine prasme. Straipsnyje šią problemą bandoma pateikti atsižvelgiant į dabartinių lietuvių ir lenkų požiūrį. Taigi bandoma de facto pateikti lenkiškai kalbančios aplinkos fotografinį pjūvį ir aptarti jų sociolingvistines šaknis XX a. pradžioje. Keliami esminiai ir aktualūs klausimai, kodėl terminas „senalietuviai“, nors ir yra naudingas ir daugumai net patrauklus, gali būti vertinamas kaip pažeminimo ir paniekos ženklas, žvelgiant iš stricte lenkiškos pozicijos, ką Pirmojo pasaulinio karo išvakarėse reiškė būti lenku Lietuvoje? Kokios buvo politinės lenkiškos tapatybės pasekmės tuo metu, kai abi šalys, Lietuva ir Lenkija, 1918 m. atkūrė nepriklausomybę?. ENThe concept of “old Lithuanians” introduced into the scholarly literature by Krzysztof Buchowski and popularized by Alfredas Bumblauskas gained significant popularity not only in Poland, but in the Lithuanian intellectual milieu. This concept, similarly to other socio-linguistic concepts, mirrors the reality in spe only to a certain degree. It aims at interpreting the real state of affairs in historic Lithuania, concerning the origins of a significant part of its inhabitants who, at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, defined themselves as local Poles or local Belarusians or even as representatives of another nationality who were non-pure-blood modern Lithuanians. In this text I try to describe my own approach to this concept from the point of view of modern Lithuanians and modern Poles. Then I try to present in brief a kind of image of the Polish-speaking circle and its socio-ethnic origins at the threshold of the 20th century. Finally I ask some vital questions, such as why the term “old Lithuanians,” although very useful and even sympathetic for us, might be perceived as humiliating and degrading from a strict Polish point of view. The ultimate issue is the question: who was a Pole in the Lithuania of that time-before World War One? What was the political result of this Polish identity at the moment of gaining independence by both countries, Lithuania and Poland, in 1918?. [From the publication]
