ENReview of theoretical works on cheating in sports allows the authors to state that the phenomenon, its spread and the attitude of athletes, administrative staff, coaches, referees towards it have been insufficiently researched. The research problem is relevant and should be analysed. Research object: cheating in sports. Research aim: To identify students’ in the Physical Education study programme attitude towards cheating in sports and its spread. Research objectives: 1. To review the concept and forms of cheating in sports in scientific literature. 2. To identify the factors that affect cheating in sports. 3. To analyse students’ attitude towards cheating in sports and its spread. Research methods. Theoretical: review of scientific literature on cheating in sports and its spread. Empirical: 1) survey of students in the Physical Education study programme using a questionnaire; 2) analysis of students’ responses to open-ended questions, reflections on their personal experiences, examples of fair play and cheating. Content analysis was carried out to clarify students’ attitude towards cheating in sports. Cheating in sports is a complex, poly-semantic phenomenon and characterises the behaviour of the athlete or team. The authors of the paper systematized responses on values in sports, identified their characteristic features and drew the conclusion that high achievement depends on physical, emotional and spiritual strength, the athlete or team experiences tension. Professional athletes violate ethical norms in pursuit of victory. Most of the surveyed were of the opinion that cheating can help win on competitions, unfair play is provoked by the improper behaviour of the competitor. [From the publication]
