Summary / Abstract:

ENAggression at schools and society is a widespread phenomenon, since many conflict situations are usually solved by using verbal or physical aggression, and it is becoming a serious social problem around the world. Family plays one of the most important roles in the childʼs socialization process as the family conveys socially acceptable norms of behavior and values. However, children raised up in dysfunctional families often gain a negative attitude towards the family and society, and their aggressive behavior is later relocated to the school environment. The research determined that the situation in Klaipeda gymnasiums is threatening since more than a half of the respondent teachers claimed that pupils often behave aggressively. The pupils want to be popular among peers and thus behave aggressively, and other pupils often return an aggressive response. They become alienated, feel humiliated and forced to seek help from the teachers. Many students try to escape violence and bullying at school, so they avoid the places where they could come into contact with aggressive pupils. When pupils experience aggressive behavior, they feel humiliated, alienated and unsafe. The pupils who experience peer violence and bullying start to avoid interaction with others, feel unconfident, under constant stress and fear. Most of the respondent teachers always try to immediately intervene in the conflict among pupils without any fear that the pupils’ anger might be unleashed on them, teachers try to protect the pupils and discipline the aggressors.
