Summary / Abstract:

Reikšminiai žodžiai: "Naujoji Romuva''; Autoritarizmas; Deklaracija; Ideologija; M. ENThe article discusses the ideological links of Mykolas Römeris - a lawyer, publicist, historian, public and political figure - with the declaration "Towards the Establishment of Organic Country" published by the group of intellectuals in the magazine "Naujoji Romuva" No. 8, 1936. It discusses philosophical and methodological principles aimed at the combat of the crisis in the Lithuanian state of that time by proposing the democracy of a new - complete - type, which was to be implemented by a new organic country organized on corporative principles. The paper investigates Römeris' motives of approval of this declaration and provides a hypothetical definition of the statements of the declaration, which best corresponded to his views. It maybe asserted that his practice of 1905-1919 convinced him of the inefficiency of the principles of classical democracy and thus led to the quest for the link between nationalism and democracy. The result of this quest - the concept of the national-democracy - brought him to the list of the undersigned of the declaration. Through the criticism of individualism and liberalism, especially economic liberalism, M. Römeris developed the concept of social solidarity, which combined the ideas of social solidarity and social liberalism. That fundamentally corresponded to the structure of the organic country laid down in the declaration: the introduction of corporate regime to social-economic sectors. Through the approval of the anti-liberal model of the governmental regime promoted in the declaration, he believed to preserve the opportunity of establishing the democratic country and society grounded on civic principles.
