Summary / Abstract:

ENIn order to ensure transparency of recognition of certificates and diplomas, evidencing the qualification of the nurse, responsible for general care, higher requirements are raised for the qualification of professional doctors. Due to the said reason it is necessary to include new methods, tools and management of education into the process of preparation of doctors. However in Lithuania there is a lack of modern education technologies, able to ensure high quality of education to medicine students. The study searches for answers to the following questions: which European qualification transparency requirements for nursing specialists are raised in Lithuania and is there a possibility to reach them? How can the educational needs of medicine students be satisfied? Which ways and methods are most suitable and relevant? The article attempts at evaluation of the professional education and lifelong learning needs of Lithuanian nurses and the possibilities of application of information and communication technologies in order to ensure the transparency of European qualification of nursing specialists. The first part of the article analyzes the concept of qualification and competence, their interrelations and structure. The second part describes the present traits and future prospects of education of adults in Lithuania. The third part suggests the ways for development of new nurses’ preparation possibilities in Lithuania and other countries. The performed analysis allows for the conclusion that when providing medical education it is necessary to include new forms of education and information and communication technologies. In order to improve the quality and attractiveness of professional training, it is necessary to draw the attention to the inter-institutional cooperation (between colleges and universities) and the partnership (on the national, regional and pan-European level).
