ENThis chapter discusses the developments in Lithuania’s initial and continuous teacher training systems from 1990 up to the present day. Both tiers of professional development have undergone numerous changes, in line with broader shifts across Lithuania’s schools, parents’ and pupils’ attitudes, as well as society in general. This chapter offers an analytical overview of existing studies on teachers’ professionalism, leadership, and professional development, as well as policy documents which impose some limitations or, on the contrary, trigger rapid changes without the necessary preparation for their success. These challenges for Lithuania’s teacher education systems are ultimately viewed within the context of global trends, in order to identify implications for future developments.
