Summary / Abstract:

Be to, pastebėta tendencija, kad gerėjant suvokiamai fizinei kompetencijai, gerėja ir nežymiai protiškai atsilikusių paauglių savęs vertinimas. [Iš leidinio]

ENAt the beginning of the 20th century mentally retarded people were treated as a burden of society, patients of medical institutions, customers of social care and objects of care and charity. 50 years ago different systems were created in the countries of Western Europe, which supported the rights of the disabled, including those of mentally retarded persons. In improving the quality of life and social integration of such children and teenagers recently great attention has been devoted to an applied physical activity that can increase the potential of their independence and their positive self-assessment to the maximum. Investigations into slightly mentally retarded children and teenagers are relevant. This encouraged the present author to undertake this investigation. Having defined the subject of the investigation, a real and perceived physical competence and a physical capacity as indicators of physical competence were chosen as its variables. The aim of the investigation was to determine the effect of an applied physical activity on self-assessment and perception of physical competence of slightly retarded children. The scientific innovation of the investigation is that it revealed a functional (causal) relation between the applied physical activity and the physical competence perceived by the slightly retarded children, which has an effect on their self-assessment, and its practical significance is defined by the fact that measures of pedagogical effect applied in the investigation can be used in developing slightly mentally retarded teenagers stimulating processes of their socialisation and improving their quality of life.
