Valdovo Vytauto atmintis Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės visuomenėje XVI-XVII a.: nuo šulinio pavadinimo iki "Vytauto pirties"
LTXXI a. pradžioje Lietuvos istorikai susidomėjo atminties kultūros tyrimais. Pirma studija apie Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės (LDK) laikų atmintį priklauso istorikui Alvydui Nikžentaičiui, kurioje jis išaiškino dviejų monarchų - Vytauto ir Jogailos - įvaizdžius lietuvių ir lenkų visuomenėse1. Netrukus pasirodė išsamus Giedrės Mickūnaitės tyrimas apie monarcho Vytauto įvaizdį LDK visuomenėje, paliesta to reikšmė ir šiomis dienomis. Ilgainiui LDK atminties tradicijos tyrimų daugėjo3. Juose apmąstytas dabarties visuomenės (-ių) ryšys su istorine atmintimi, nusakyti požiūriai ir stereotipai. Vis dėlto reikia pažymėti, kad tyrimuose vyrauja istorinės atminties problematika, aiškinami praeities atspindžiai dabartyje. Kito požiūrio tyrimuose nagrinėjama atminties raiška istorinėse visuomenėse. Keliami klausimai, kaip istorinė tradicija skleidėsi viduramžiais, XVI a. arba XVIII a. Europoje. Pavyzdžiui, vieną išsamiausių darbų apie istorinę mintį viduramžiais paskelbė Bernard’as Guenėe. Tačiau yra pastebėta, kad tiriant šią atmintį susiduriama su problemos daugiasluoksniškumu. Galima nagrinėti istorinio individo fenomenologinę atmintį, genealogiją arba socialinių grupių atminties raišką. Tai suponuoja ir ikimoderniųjų laikų socialinė struktūra (luomai). Dėl to tyrėjas pirmiausia turi išnagrinėti kiekvieną jų ir tik po to imtis apibendrinimų. [Iš straipsnio, p. 99]
ENThe object of the research carried out in the present article is the memory of Vytautas, a monarch of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL), among the illiterate population during the 16-17th c. The oral traditions of memory were not long-lasting. A historical phenomenon was usually known by three generations, and, only in exceptional cases, it could have been remembered for longer. The longevity of life of an oral memory was significantly affected by practice. The best remembered names of dukes and rulers were ones that were used to name roads, crossings and bridges. The oral tradition preserved the names of historical figures because they were “tied" to various objects named after them. People used to learn these names and use them out of convenience. However, in the 16th c., only in exceptional cases was it common knowledge that some names belonged to rulers of the GDL of the 16th c., for example, Algirdas or Kęstutis. The most well-known and remembered ruler of the GDL in the oral tradition of the 16-17th c. was Vytautas. People often stated that they "remember” the times of Vytautas and know who this person was. In particular, people had tried to remember Vytautas the most when they needed to prove the legality of an acquired property, as the remembrance of his times was a symbolic concept of a time long ago. In other cases, the name of Vytautas was remembered when describing a historical landscape. For example, during the documentation of forest or land boundaries or the inventory of property, the following place names were mentioned: "Vytautava", "Vytautas' roads”, "Vytautas’ bridges", "Vytautas' crossings", "Vytautas’ bathhouse" - a customs office near the Black Sea, and in Trakai - the "Vytautas hill". It can be stated that the people of the GDL in the 16-17th c. had perceived the personality of Vytautas to be the primary point of historical memory. [From the publication
