ENPolitical, economic, social, and cultural transformations put forward new challenges and requirements for communication in general. As social context lays a stress on effective oral communication, the paper contains the theoretical analysis of communicative competence and the analysis of the results of a survey of students‘ attitudes towards the importance of communicative competence development. The research was performed in spring 2010 with undergraduate students of humanities and social sciences of Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty of Humanities, Lithuania. Statistical analysis of the data highlights students‘ attitudes towards their abilities to communicate with job and study partners orally, to speak in public, to apply non-verbal communication. The attempt was also made to reveal the factors that influence the amount of foreign languages that respondents use. A special attention was paid to the students‘ motivation for further development of their communicative competence. [From the publication]
