The Ritual customs of the way of the cross in Lithuania: the church and local traditions

ENThe objective of the research: to determine the place of the Lithuanian ritual of Calvary - walking the Way of the Cross - in the Church and local traditions. The subject of the research: the customs of the ritual of Calvary - walking the Way of the Cross - in Lithuania. The chosen issue is researched probably for the first time. The concepts of work are also new. Geographical cartography, analysis, synthesis, typological and retrospective methods were used during the entire research process. The research is based on historical, ethnological data, and on the data gathered in the second half of the 20th century during summer field expeditions. The results: the hypothesis was raised and proved that in Lithuania the pre-Christian customs of religious devotions and culture were incorporated into the customs of Calvary ritual - walking the Way of the Cross - this way providing them regional distinctiveness.
