Summary / Abstract:

ENToday’s youth is maturing in a dynamic socio-cultural space where the issue of socialisation affects its process. In this situation the youth – one of the most vulnerable groups of society – fall victim to socialisation. The policy of the contemporary youth encouraged the youth to become not only the object of social assistance but also its subject seeking for the improvement of a person. An in-depth research analysis indicates that the voluntary activity of the youth helps them satisfy their needs for self-expression and self-realisation, provides conditions for informal education and self-development and all that stimulates more successful socialisation of the youth and the improvement of their personality. Therefore, in the first part of this article the phenomenon of volunteerism and the specificity of the youth volunteer social activities in Europe and Lithuania are discussed. In the second part motives of the youth volunteers in voluntary activities are reviewed and the third part is devoted to the fundamentals used for preparing voluntary activities of the youth an for the improvement of their personality.
