ENIn the 17th c. Kėdainiai, a private town of the Dukes Radvila (Radziwiłł), was a centre of Reformation in Lithuania with communities of different nations and confessions. The biggest and the most influential in the town was the Scottish community. Having arrived here most probably because of economical reasons (the religious - utopian version is not to be rejected as well), the Scots pretty quickly and firm integrated themselves into the town’s society: becoming important participants of the town’s economical life, main members and supporters pf the evangelic reformers parish. In the middle of the 17-18 c. the Scottish community in Kėdainiai could amount about 200 - 300 persons. After the number the community could be the second biggest in the whole region of Scandinavia and Baltic - the biggest one was in Bergen, in Norway, with 270 Scots. In the middle of the 18m c. after unlucky attempts to recover destroyed trade and other commercial activity the Scottish community of Kėdainiai almost disappeared. [From the publication]
