ENStanisław Kościałkowski was a promoter of research on the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 18th century. He taught dozens of students the basics of sound research, and facilitated the printing of their works, which remain valuable to this day. He was however, unable to create own research school of Lithuanian Studies. The war contributed to the decreasing number of his graduate young scholars, and those, who remained active in post-war Poland, mostly concentrated on issues remaining in accordance with marxist principles imposed by the new administration of science of Peoples’ Republic. Kościałkowski was the initiator of publishing the Akty cechów wileńskich, although most editorial work was done by Henryk and Maria Lowmiańscy. His basic work - issued with a 30-year delay - Antoni Tyzenhauz podskarbi nadworny litewski (Antoni Tyzenhauz: Lord Treasurer of Lithuania) (London 1970-1971), is to this day a crucial panorama of the internal history of Lithuania between 1765 and 1780. It is also the basis for contemporary works on the history the Grand Duchy of Lithuania conducted in Poland, Lithuania and Belarus. [From the publication]
