ENThe studies of a multicultural region are unique in terms of the laws of language interaction, which occur due to the parallel coexistence of several languages. The south-eastern region of the Republic of Lithuania is considered to be the one where representatives of different nationalities have been living for a long time. The article deals with the contemporary linguistic structure of Vilnius in terms of the cultural-linguistic connections, as well as indicates the main reasons of the occurrence of multilingualism on the said territory. The functional status of the most frequently used languages is determined and the linguistic connections among these languages are described. The relevance of the investigation is determined by the actualization of the issues related to the interaction of national languages and cultures, as well as their synchronous realization and study from the communicative, pragmatic, national-cultural and social aspects of the functioning of language units due to the global spread of emigration processes.
