ENThe aim of the article was the reflection of die cooperation of several mythological representations within the language and folk frames. The problem is spread of meanings in lexicography, onomastics and folk of Baltic lexeme *kauk-as. In Prussian language in Elbing Vocabulary one can find word Cawx < balt. *kauk-as translated as Teufel (devil). There are several creatures in Baltic mythology, which seemingly have similar functions, but in language they are defined with different lexemes. This article tries to justify the idea of V. Mažiulis that the meaning of Prussian kauk(a)s for the ordinary people (who didn't understand German and knew little about Christianity) stayed as long as some kind of penates - favourable creature not the devil. The base is onomastics and folklore: 1. Spreading root kauk- and its variants in Baltic onomastics, semantics and in the geographic frame. 2. Spreading of mythonym *kaukas in Baltic folk (functions, picture, synonymic, transformations of meanings). 3. The influence of cooperation between Christianity and other cultures to the evolution of the mythonym. [Text from author]
