Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article analyses differences in the cognitive and behavioural strategies of those adolescents who have lost the guardianship of their parents as well as those who live in full families. Adolescents who live in foster homes and adolescents who live with both parents took part in the research. The Questionnaire of Strategies and Attributions was used to assess the cognitive and behavioural strategies employed by the adolescents. The results obtained by statistical analysis showed that adolescents who have lost the guardianship of parents more often employ dysfunctional cognitive and behavioural strategies. Foster-children are less inclined to seek social support from other people; they don’t expect success and are concerned about the possibility of failure in social situations; they more often employ methods that prevent them from engaging in social relations and seeking their goals. They are also characterised by a more distinct pessimism and social evasion. Adolescents living in full families are more inclined to expect success in achievement situations; they spend more time analysing various solutions when facing problems; and they more often apply a task-solving approach to achieve social status and success.
