Summary / Abstract:

LTAlsėdžiai nuo XV a. vid. Iki XIX a. vid. buvo viena iš pagrindinių Žemaičių vyskupų rezidencijų vieta. Daugiausia medžiagos Alsėdžių bažnyčios statybos istorijai pateikia vizitacijų aktai ir inventorių surašymai. Pirmoji bažnyčia Alsėdžiuose pastatyta XV a. antroje pusėje Žemaičių vyskupo Motiejaus II (vyskupiją valdė 1464-1470). Ankstyviausioji informacija apie jau pastatytą bažnyčią Alsėdžiuose yra Žemaičių vyskupo Baltramiejaus II suteiktoje 1475 m. fundacijoje. Neturime informacijos apie bažnyčios padėtį XVI a., tačiau, galima spėti, kad XVI a. antroje pusėje ji buvo bent jau paremontuota, jeigu nebuvo perstatyta. Naują Alsėdžių bažnyčią, pakeitusią senąją Šv. Onos bažnyčią, XVII a. 5-ajame dešimtmetyje (konsekruota 1649 m.) pastatė vyskupas Jurgis Tiškevičius. Atrodo, bažnyčia, pastatyta XVII a. vid., buvo panaši į dabartinę tiek dydžiu, tiek bendru planu. 6 altoriai minimi jau 1677 m. XVIII a. pirmoje pusėje Žemaičių vyskupo Aleksandro Gorainio (Žemaičių vyskupo 1716-1735) iniciatyva pakeista dauguma bažnyčios altorių. Svarbiausieji jos akcentai susiformavo XVII a.: stebuklingas Šv. Baltramiejaus paveikslas (minimas XVII a. pirmoje pusėje) ir Šv. Onos brolija (įkurta 1629 m.). ENFrom the middle of 15th to the middle of 19th century Alsėdžiai was one of the main places of residence for bishops of Žemaitija. Most information about the history of Alsėdžiai church construction can be obtained from the reports of visitations and inventories. The first church was built in the second half of 15th century by bishop of Žemaitija, Mathew II (governed the diocese in 1464-1470). The earliest information on the already erected building of Alsėdžiai church is provided by the privilege granted by bishop Bartholomew II in 1475. There is no information on the state of the church during the 16th century, however, we could guess that it was at least considerably renovated if not totally rebuilt in the second half of the century. The new Alsėdžiai church replacing the old St. Anne's was built by bishop of Žemaičiai, Jurgis Tiškevičius in the 5th decade of the 17th century (consecrated in 1649). It appears that this church built in the middle of the 17th century was similar to the modern building both in size and in general layout. 6 altars were already installed in 1677. In the first half of the 18th century, by initiative of bishop of Žemaičiai, Aleksandras Gorainis (bishop of Žemaičiai 1716-1735) most altars in the church were rearranged. Later rearrangements were related to the construction of the new (and present-day) church in 1793-1794 and the decoration of its interior. The church rebuilt in the end of 18th century preserved the main features of the old church. Religious tradition of the parish is also directly related to the décor of Alsėdžiai church. Its main accents were already shaped in 17th century: the miraculous painting of St. Bartholomew (referred to since first half of 17th century), and fraternity of St. Anne (established in 1629).
