Estetiniai jugendo idealai baltų kultūroje

LTStraipsnyje nagrinėjamas jugendo stilius, atnešęs nemažai naujovių į baltų kultūrą. Apžvelgtam šio stiliaus įtaka XX amžiaus pradžios kultūriniam gyvenimui: aktyviam dalyvavimui parodose, teatriniam judėjimui, menininkų sambūriams. Atkreipiamas dėmesys į Vilniaus ir Rygos architektūrą, kurią veikė naujos architektūrinės idėjos. Siekiama įvertinti stilistinio vieningumo siekį leidyboje - jugendo populiarumo laikotarpiu Lietuvoje ir Latvijoje pasirodė iliustruoti žurnalai-albumai, pradėtos leisti puošnios knygos.

ENJugenstil left an imprint in both Lithuania and Latvia. It was the style of the late 19th and early 20th centuries finding its embodiment in Baltic culture. The style is closely connected with the tradition of exhibition holding. Special mention should be made of the Paris Exhibition in 1900, in which Lithuanian artists took part, and the 1901 exhibition in Riga. Jugendstil found its most vivid expression in Latvian architecture. The style had a great impact on the art of printing since a great number of ornate books and albums were published in Lithuania and Latvia. The ideas of Jugendstil can also be found in the Baltic periodical press. Young authors vividly demonstrated the association of tradition with modem culture and the imperative need for a conscious process of innovation and of learning from others. The leading position in this process was assumed by Jugendstil, whose motto was: "a new art for a new age". Thus Jugendstil, found in West and Central Europe, influenced the Lithuanian and Latvian culture life as well.
