Summary / Abstract:

LTStraipsnyje pateikiami 2010 m. Lietuvoje atlikto tyrimo duomenys. ENKnowledge, abilities and skills, acquired in school, strengthen civil activity of schoolchildren, however, families do have the greatest influence in the process of forming schoolchildren's value - system (parents are the first educators of their children). Upholding of values in the family plays as an important factor in order to enhance children's ability to withstand abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Information presented in this article shows, that while most parents are sufficiently informed about psychoactive substances, however some parents do have inaccurate information (sometimes this information is also deceptive), consequently parents diversely evaluate prevalence of these substances among children. Some parents totally don't understand extent of abusing alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and are assured that there are no problems, related to this condition, therefore such way of thinking is the basis of forming false views about prevention as certain phenomenon. Evaluation of parent's views about pursuing values of their children concludes reasons why children are using psychoactive substances. In their answers parents usually point to external reasons, which means that influence of friends, living conditions, supply, lack of life skills is blamed for rising of this problem. Nevertheless family and values, pursued in the family, are accepted as the main reason why children don't use psychoactive substances. So developing of values in a family plays as the main factor in order to consolidate psychological resistance to the abuse of psychoactive substances, also appropriate microclimate encourage children to choose positive decisions and solidify responsibility for their behavior. While most of parents understand and believe in the efficiency of participation in preventive programs, large numbers of them also evaluate effect of preventive programs, which is implemented in schools, as moderate and this is the main reason why they don't participate in preventive activities. Some parents also do not have enough information about preventive programs and believe that such programs are designed only for children and their parents who already have problems related to substance abuse. Overall it is important to point out that nurturance of attitudes towards important life values are not sufficient in Lithuanian families, because parents lack competence in this field. Parents usually don't participate in the preventive activities related to psychoactive substances abuse among children and don't understand significance of participation in this process.
