Summary / Abstract:

Reikšminiai žodžiai: Dvaras; Dvaro inventoriai; Genealogija; Istorija; Joniškėlio dvaras; Joniškėlis; Karpių giminė; Dvaras; Estate; Genealogy; History; Inventories of manor; Joniškėlis; Joniškėlis manor.

ENJoniškėlis manor ensemble is one of the largest manors, which survived in Lithuania. It now encompasses 20 buildings, which is less by one third than the number recorded in 1924. The ensemble consists of Classicist palace and residential, utility and household buildings of later periods built in the mid or end of the 19th century, which were scattered in a diversified park, which was started to cultivate in the second half of the 18th century when masonry palace was built, and finally formed in the end of the 19th century. Eastern white pines, balsam firs, Austrian pines, English oaks, golden arborvitaes, big buckeyes and other rarely grown trees were planted there. Straight avenue joined the manor and the Linkuva–Pušalotas road, and the central street of the town, which begins behind the Mažupės bridge, close to the central street the church, school and hospital were built, all of them were of Classicistic style funded by Karpp landlord family. The manor and the town were inter-connected. The farm was settled in Mažupė lowland area. The buildings came in several groups. At the representational stall (about a hectare large lawn) sat the old palace, and workshop and the new palace from the sides. In the lower terem settled in the south east from the palace, the following buildings were deployed in a compact manner: barn, cowsheds, smokehouse and meat storage, smithery and warehouses of the mill. Here the stone watermill once existed. The manor was ruled by the Karpp family, who acquired it in 1723. The Karpps were the family of Lithuanian nobles, who originated themselves from Italy. Their manors were mostly spread in Žemaitija [Samogitia], Northern Lithuania, Podlachia and elsewhere.
