Summary / Abstract:

ENIn 1369, intense acts of war took place on the lower Nemunas River between the Teutonic Order and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. They consisted primarily in both sides constructing fortified points on the island of Wyrgalle / Gotis (werder) in the form of brick castles, which were then mutually attacked, conquered and destroyed or taken over. This article contains a detailed source analysis of several chronicles forming separate narrative traditions in which the events of 1369 on the lower Nemunas River are represented and, based on this analysis, proposes a comprehensive interpretation of the course of events.
