ENThe text of the story 'Rimai ir Nerimai' (The Rimas and Nerimas Families) by Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas (first published in 1914) is to be called a dialogic narrative: the charactersí dialogues and monologues and the narratorís language are purposefully addressee-focused - the author addresses the readers and hopes for their response. The text of the story has three distinct features: actualization of colloquial language; insertions of scientific and journalistic style not characteristic of fiction; exaltation of Lithuanianism as the good and the beauty. All the features are meant to educate people, make them think, rely on the mind rather than emotions, encourage them to be united and play an active role in their personal well-being and the well-being of the homeland. The charactersí dialogues and monologues are used to convey the everyday language of rural people. The colloquial language is indicated by verbalization of body movements, humour, connoted (strong, lowered, evaluative) vocabulary, elements of dialectal language. The insertions of scientific and journalistic style are explanations and reasoning - they are presented at the end of the parts of the text, various references and allusions, cultural signs and terms, verbal means of the activation of attention, metalinguistic utterances. The description of the Lithuanian character, worldview, and emotional attitude to the environment shows what nation Vaižgantas would like to see. [From the publication]
