ENThe paper aims to present a comparative analysis of Jurga Ivanauskaite’s short story “Dvi pasakos apie savižudžius” (1985/2003) and its translation into English by Laima Sruoginis [“Two Stories about Suicides”, 1994]. Central in this comparison is the discussion of the role that sentence patterning and the use of punctuation play in rendering the idiosyncrasies of the source language text into the target language text (hereafter ST and TT, respectively). The focus is on the narratological and thematic characteristics of the original and its translation as they are revealed by the use of specific syntactic structures and punctuation. [Extract, p. 85]
