ENThe present article analyses Lithuanian and Latvian vernacular names of mushrooms. Myconyms still lack exhaustive analysis in both languages. After the detailed analysis of their origin had been carried out, a paradigm of motivated myconyms was determined. By applying methods of structural and semantic analysis, the explicit motivation models (MM) have been established. Both languages share four most common MM: colorative, dendronymic, animalistic, somatic. MM comprises a particular hierarchic system. The names of mushrooms in both languages share three most characteristic types of explicit motivation models (MMT): attributive MMT, comparative MMT, and functional MMT. Lacking in abundance and non-productive type is functional MMT. Attributive MMT consists of three groups of motivation models (MMG), the most productive and versatile of which in both languages is descriptive, or characterizing, MMG. Less varied but also productive is locative MMG. [From the publication]
