LTStraipsnyje teoriškai pagrindžiamos nuotolinio mokymo galimybės prisidėti prie Lietuvos kariuomenės taikos meto funkcinės veiklos kokybės gerinimo, atskleidžiamos pagrindinės nuotolinio mokymo funkcijos. Remiantis Lietuvos kariuomenės dokumentacijos ir mokslinės literatūros analize, straipsnyje išskiriamos nuotolinio mokymo taikymo Lietuvos kariuomenėje potencialo vertinimo dimensijos ir jas sudarantys kriterijai, išskiriami esminiai nuotolinio mokymo taikymo privalumai. Taip pat atskleidžiama, kaip nuotolinis mokymas galėtų prisidėti prie karinių pajėgų rengimo kokybės gerinimo ir operacinės personalo parengties užtikrinimo. Straipsnio pabaigoje pateikiamos nuotolinio profesinio karinio rengimo privalumus apibendrinančios išvados, kurios galėtų būti panaudotos diegiant ir plėtojant nuotolinį mokymą Lietuvos kariuomenėje. ENRecently performed reorganization of the Lithuanian Armed Forces (LAF) resulted in the increased number of personnel and as a consequence student load frequently exceeds the capacities of the LAF educational centres leading to a possible negative impact on operational readiness of personnel. Distance education is one of the means which may be successfully adopted for the LAF’s peacetime functional performance and enhancement of personnel education quality. Depending on the available technology and pedagogical approach, distance education can perform four didactic functions: it can be used as a teaching method, form of teaching, learning strategy and as a means of lifelong learning. Distance education as a teaching method and form of teaching can be used to enhance the quality of personnel training, while distance education as a learning strategy and as a means of lifelong learning can be used to promote self-education through open sources, networking, multimedia, etc. The evaluation of the distance education potential in the LAF can be implemented through the following three major dimensions: 1. Distance. It represents the core function of distance education, i.e. to deliver learning products regardless of place and distance. Thus, this dimension could be defined by accessibility and range criteria. 2. Education. The main function of military distance education and training is the preparation of highly-skilled staff; therefore, educational dimension could be defined by qualification and flexibility criteria. 3. Cost efficiency. The shift of cost savings from traditional to distant course. The potential of distance education to improve the quality of military personnel education and training could be evaluated through quantitative and qualitative indicators. 1. Quantitative indicator could be determined by personnel throughput and training time criteria.2. Qualitative indicator could be determined by didactic function and professional readiness criteria. In conclusion, distance education is a reasonable teaching and learning approach which may significantly reduce the overload of military training centres and fulfil the rising demand of skilled personnel. Distance, education and costefficiency dimensions allow evaluating the possible benefits of distance education in the LAF. The learning products can be delivered regardless of time and distance; high operational readiness of personnel can be ensured by reducing the impact of skill decay and providing individualized teaching; a shift from traditional to distance course may impact higher cost-efficiency and save resources. Qualitative and quantitative indicators show that distance education has a potential to improve the LAF peacetime functional performance by enlarging the throughput of educational personnel and enhancing education quality.
