ENThe paper discusses the image of St. Casimir attributed to Daniel Schultz which is kept in the Reformed Franciscan Church of St. Casimir in Cracow. It seeks to answer the questions concerning the prototype of the painting and to discuss the circumstances of its creation. The author attempts to grasp the ways in which the texts of Baroque era and the early iconography of St. Casimir influenced the genesis of the famous Cracow painting. Somewhat longer dwelling on the image of St. Casimir in the Church of Krosno, she discusses some of the later imitations of the Cracow painting and analyses why it was this image in particular that .was so well-liked in later times, and why it is the case that no other image in the iconographic tradition of St. Casimir matches the Cracow one in the abundance of copies and imitations. The paper lists all the copies of the Cracow 'St. Casimir' painting known to the author. [From the publication]
