ENThe article presents research results of Tomas Venclova’s individual concept Vilnius and universal Russian linguistic concept Vilnius. The hypothesis was the idea that Venclova’s text about Vilnius may become (or is becoming) an influential cultural fact affecting the conceptual field of the whole Russian culture. The material for the analysis is a text taken from Venclova’s Russian translation of the book about Vilnius and the data collected from the "National corpus of the Russian language". Research objectives – firstly, to explicate the structure and the meaning of Vilnius concept in the discourse of Venclova. Secondly, to show the structure and the meaning of Vilnius concept in the conceptual field of Russian culture. The problem is new because linguists have not yet explored the problem of Vilnius concept description in the discourse of Venclova and in the picture of the world in the Russian language. The analysis is based on the methods of cognitive linguistics: in the research the author analysed what was said, how it was said, and why the speaker said this and in that manner. "Why" is the most complex and interesting question. An attempt to answer the question "why" enables us to perceive the key values in the worldview of the discourse subject. The analysis has showed that the structure of Vilnius concept in Venclova‘s individual view of the world is characterized by an important role of "spiritual" components that make up a complete image of the city: the religious life of the city, its multilingualism and multiculturalism, tolerance of citizens in relation to each other and others, some provincial spirit of the city, as well as (what we refer to not "spiritual", but rather spatial elements) the irregularity of its architectural forms. The structure of Vilnius concept in the Russian language consists of natural spatial (Vilnius is primarily a geographical location) elements: the place where something happens, where different things (material or abstract) are present; the place which is attractive to be "owned" by different nations.
