ENAccording to the overview of the European legal landscape it may seem that the match-fixing phenomenon is treated as a serious infringement in all the countries, however, the legal evaluation of the issue is not uniform. It looks like the international society is trying to tackle it separately. Notwithstanding, match-fixing is recognized as a cross border crime of transnational nature and the common tools and remedies for the fight against match-fixing are extremely needed. And the Council of Europe Convention on Manipulation of Sports Competitions will be essential for this purpose, as well a collective global strategy led by world governments seems necessary and urgent. Indeed, it is worth to seek the overcoming loopholes in existing legislation, to establish the efficient monitoring systems, to improve police and judicial co-operation, as well to encourage national and international co-operation. It is very important to enhance the exchange of information and best practices internationally, as well as to encourage further researches on the subject matter. Additionally, the fight against manipulations in sport should be based not only on sanctions and criminal charges. It should contain the dissemination of information and education about the negative impact that match-fixing has on clubs, leagues and sport as a whole. It is important to create the culture of trust and good governance in sport with the zero-tolerance approach to match-fixing.It is already proved that better governance of the sports organizations directly reduce the risk of matchfixing. The implementation of basic principles of good governance, such as democratic representation and transparency, creates an environment in which matchfixing is less likely to occur and the social value of sport can potentially contribute to the development of the community and active citizenship. The sports movement, public and private bodies should co-operate for the fight against match-fixing. The states and sports organizations should work together to establish a close co-operation involving exchange of information between law enforcement or prosecuting authorities and sports organizations. Moreover, the sporting bodies should continue to develop and apply relevant rules, codes of conduct and educational programs for its participants and make further efforts to reduce the prospect of misconduct by adopting sustainable financial management principles. Whilst governments should ensure that relevant laws are fit for purpose and the resources exist that enable law enforcement bodies to take appropriate actions when required. Finally, the society should declare unanimously the fight against match-fixing and the zero-tolerance approach to match-fixing should be disseminated widely. [From the publication]
