ENThe article investigates the methods and technology of creating open-air museums in Belarus and the Baltic states. Special attention is drawn to their role in the development of tourism and fruitful cultural dialogue between the East and the West. Understanding the importance of historical and cultural heritage in the European countries gained its significance along with the interpretation of the heritage as an important argument of the national in the formation process of states, national markets and nations as a higher level of ethnic community of people. Thanks to the Age of Discovery it became possible for the distinctive character and authenticity of the Old World cultures to reveal themselves in comparison with the exotic cultures of other continents. As a result of the investigation of national architecture it can be concluded that the system of skansen museums in the states of Baltic region is an important unit in the concern for preserving and developing national cultures. They serve as centers for cultural exchange, accumulation of experience in development of national traditions as long as their adaptation to the modern innovative information environment. In this context most relevance is awarded to scientific projects on the investigation of ethnic frontiers, such as Belarus, Latvia and Lithuania, cultural interconnections between neighbouring regions, elaboration of tourism projects.
