ENThe article deals with the syntactic and semantic properties of the Lithuanian discourse marker "neva". This unit has been described in the literature as an evidential marker, but it is argued here that it can also function as an epistemic and an interpretive use marker, his common for evidential markers to acquire epistemic overtones, especially when they are used redundantly. The function of interpretive use marker is related to the evidential one, but whereas evidential markers are used in reporting the content of an utterance, interpretive use markers echoically reproduce the form of an utterance or non-verbalized thought. Like evidential markers, interpretive use markers may acquire epistemic overtones. Syntactically, "neva" may act as a particle or a complementizer.
