ENThe extent of knowledge of Lithuanian language dialects for students from Baltic language centres depends on their level. However, essential material related to dialects should be lectured to everyone. First of all, students’ attention should be drawn to the differences of Lithuanian language dialects and Lithuanian ethnographic regions since dialectal and ethnographic regions do not necessarily coincide. Also, the history of dialects accumulation and classification (A. Šleicheris, F. Kuršaitis, A. Baranauskas, K. Jaunius, A. Salys, A. Girdenis ir Z. Zinkevičius) should be introduced. However, there should be enough distinctive features mentioned when presenting differences of Lithuanian language dialects in order to avoid boredom. It is useful to listen to various dialectal texts which could be found at At this web page, the latest data regarding Lithuanian language dialects and three generations are published. What is more, besides “Chrestomathy of Lithuanian dialects” (Vilnius: Publishing House of the Institute of the Lithuanian Language, 2004) where many written and phonic dialectal samples are given, there are numerous publications from the series “Lithuanian language dialects for School” and “Corpus of Dialects”. These books may be used especially when listening to texts. Teaching dialects at the advanced level could be related to language history. [From the publication]
