Summary / Abstract:

Recenzija baigiama Višomirskytės knygos citata, nusakančia strategijų tikslingumą: „A.Škėmos tekstai skaitytoją išduoda, palieka jį likimo valiai.

ENConsidering the context of academic discourse dedicated to Škėma, which is revealed in the critique, the article seeks to figure out the innovation of Vijolės Višomirskytė’s book “The Strategy of Antanas Škėma’s Text: the Song of a Replanted Plant”. Having employed the functional, narratological, the new text rhetoric, and the cartographic method, in her monograph the author tries to reveal the strategies of Škėma’s text. The author defines the notion of strategies as structures that lie beneath superficial techniques and allow those techniques to be effective. The author analyses Škėma’s “Autobiographical Crumbs”, the novel “Olofern”, “The Birch and the Man”, “Sunny Days”, “Žilvinėlis” and “Isaac”. The book reveals the sensitiveness of the character of Škėma’s works, who is balancing between life and death, on the edge of insanity, between the homeland and the foreign country. To reveal that sensitiveness Škėma employs the following strategies: 1) cartographic thinking, when talking about streets and blocks of towns he “draws” maps; it metaphorically reveals how people are excluded/separated from each other in time, space and history; 2) inactivity of attributes that regulate man’s life, which show the delusion of structures that direct and regulate man’s thinking; 3) the portrayal of insanity, e.g., by using swear words which are interposed in the character’s speech. The critique is finished by a quotation from Višomirskytė which outlines the expediencey of the strategies: “Škėma’s texts betray the reader and leave him to his fate. The rhetoric of the texts pulls the carpet not only from under one’s feet, but also from under the reader’s feet”. [1].
