Summary / Abstract:

Reikšminiai žodžiai: Ekologinis sąmoningumas; Tekstilės technologijų mokymas; Ecological awarenes; Ecological awereness; Education of textile technologies; Education of textile technologies'; Environmental awareness; Textile Technology Training.

ENThe current ecological situation in the world demands more and more attention and activity from society. The aim of the article‘s analysis is to examine education of schoolchildren‘s ecological consciousness while teaching them textile technologies. The research revealed that schoolchildren associate ecology with nature preservation. Most of them said that they learned about ecology from “Nature and Human Being“ classes. Only very small part of the respondents relate ecology with moderate consumption. This choice was probably determined by their limited experience and poor knowledge of consumption culture. Schoolchildren realize that they can adapt their knowledge about consumption culture and economically use various materials, conserve, preserve things and also use leftover materials from accomplished projects. Such responses show that teaching topics about consumption culture in technologies‘ subject‘s textile program can help schoolchildren develop their sense of responsibility and stimulate their technical creativity and creative initiative. After analyzing respondents’ opinions about traditional textile techniques, which foster environmental consciousness, it was noticed that schoolchildren from 5th form think that it is the embroidery that helps to raise their ecological consciousness. The schoolchildren from 6th form stated that knitting technique promotes their ecological consciousness. The majority of teachers were convinced that the weaving textile technique is the best tool to develop schoolchildren‘s ecological consciousness. Such different distribution of respondents‘ answers show that ecological education through textile program cannot be treated unambiguously as each textile technique can be analyzed miscellaneously.
