ENThe main theme of I. Meras' works discussed in this article is the eroticism of human existence. The phenomenon of eroticism surfaces in I. Meras as the universal relationship that creates man's reality. Erotic motifs in the novels reveal this spiritual experience. The erotic manifests itself in moments of man's self understanding; it is recognised in various cultural forms. The conditions and the reasons for the emergence of the erotic theme in Lithuanian literature are also discussed in this article. Eroticism is examined in the light of modern philosophical discourse.
