Baltic way(s) of human development : twenty years on

LT2010–2011 m. žmogaus socialinės raidos ataskaitoje pristatomi Estijos, Latvijos ir Lietuvos dvidešimties nepriklausomybės metų pasiekimai. Leidinyje pateikiama vertinga lyginamoji politinių ir ekonominių sistemų pokyčių, įvykusių Baltijos valstybėse po vadinamojo Rytų bloko žlugimo, apžvalga. Jos tikslas – išsiaiškinti, ar Baltijos valstybėse veikiantys plėtros modeliai yra veiksmingi, ar jie galėtų tapti pavyzdžiu kitoms, ant didžiulių pokyčių slenksčio esančioms valstybėms bei regionams. Baltijos valstybių pasiektų rezultatų vertinimas derinamas su kritiniu žvilgsniu į tai, kas dar turi būti padaryta ateityje; aiškinamasi, kas lemia trijų valstybių raidos panašumus bei skirtumus. Pirmoje leidinio dalyje analizuojami Baltijos valstybių transformacijos ir žmogaus socialinės raidos tendencijų skirtumai ir panašumai, antroje aptariami gyventojų populiacijos, gyvenimo trukmės ir sveikatos būklės pokyčiai. Trečiosios dalies autorių dėmesio centre atsiduria Baltijos valstybių socialinės apsaugos politikos, darbo rinkos ir subjektyvios šių šalių gyventojų gerovės tendencijos ir problemos. Ketvirtoji tyrimo dalis skirta švietimo klausimams. Penktojoje analizuojama Baltijos valstybių kalbinė erdvė bei žmogiškasis kapitalas. Šeštojoje leidinio dalyje nagrinėjami Lietuvos, Latvijos ir Estijos politinės raidos bruožai ir procesai, septintoji skirta Baltijos valstybių bendradarbiavimo ir integracijos klausimams. ENThe 2010-2011 Human Development Report presents the achievements of twenty years of Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian independence. The publication provides a valuable comparative overview of the political and economic system changes that took place in the Baltic States after the fall of the so-called Eastern Bloc. Its goal is to gauge whether or not the development models in the Baltic States are effective, and if they could become an example for other states and regions that are on the threshold of major changes. Evaluation of the results achieved by the Baltic States is combined with a critical look at what remains to be done in the future; what determines the similarities and differences in the evolution of the three countries is examined. The first part of the publication analyses the differences and similarities in the human development trends and transformation of the Baltic States, while the second part discusses changes in population, life expectancy and health status. The authors of the third part concentrate on the trends and problems in the labour market and social security policy of the Baltic States, as well as the subjective well-being of the residents of these countries. The fourth part of the study is devoted to educational issues. The fifth analyses the linguistic space and human capital of the Baltic States. The sixth part of the publication examines the features and processes of the political evolution of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, and the seventh is devoted to Baltic cooperation and integration issues. In summing up the Baltic States’ human development trends, the publication looks for an answer to the question: what could the Baltic way be in the 21st century?.
