A Borderland in post-socialist central European and Baltic states
LTPosocialistinėse valstybėse vykstantys pokyčiai turėjo reikšmingos įtakos šių valstybių pasienio regionams. Šiame straipsnyje analizuojami posocialistinių Vidurio Europos ir Baltijos regiono valstybių – Lenkijos, Čekijos, Slovakijos, Vengrijos, iš dalies Slovėnijos, Lietuvos, Latvijos ir Estijos – pasienio teritorijų klausimai, nagrinėjami šių šalių pasieniuose vykstantys procesai, svarbiausios tenykštės problemos bei veiksniai, darantys įtaką pasienio teritorijų raidai. Tyrimui pasirinktos valstybės turi panašią pokario istoriją, panašų ekonominio išsivystymo lygį bei priklauso Europos Sąjungai. Viena vertus, dėl šių bendrumų galima tikėtis ir panašių minėtų valstybių pasienio regionų raidos tendencijų. Kita vertus, minėtos valstybės skiriasi pagal tai, su kuo turi bendras sienas – su Vakarų valstybėmis, Europos Sąjungos šalimis, su Rytų valstybėmis ar su vienomis ir kitomis. Tyrime ieškoma atsakymų į du pagrindinius klausimus. Pirma, siekiant atskleisti posocialistinių Baltijos ir Vidurio Europos valstybių pasienio regionų ypatumus bei šių regionų vystymosi tendencijas pereinamuoju laikotarpiu, klausiama: kas bendra tarp Baltijos valstybių ir Vidurio Europos šalių pasienio regionų? Antra, aiškinantis tam tikrų minėtų valstybių pasienio regionų skirtumus bei išskirtinius bruožus, klausiama: kokie pagrindiniai veiksniai lemia tyrimui pasirinktų valstybių pasienio erdvės skirtumus, apie kokio tipo pasienį galima kalbėti kiekvienu tiriamu atveju?.
ENChanges in the Post-Soviet states had significant impact on the border regions of these countries. This article analyses questions of border territories of the Post-Soviet states in Central Europe and the Baltic Region, i.e. Poland, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Hungary, partly Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, explores the processes taking place in their border regions, key local issues and factors affecting the development of border territories. The study focuses on the states with similar post war history, similar level of economic development and member states of the European Union. On one hand one could expect similar developmental trends in these border regions because of the commonalities mentioned, one the other hand these states differ in that they share borders with different countries –with Western countries, EU Member States, Eastern countries or both. The study seeks to provide answers to two key questions. First, in order to explore particularities of border regions of the Post-Soviet Baltic States and states of Central Europe, and trends of their development during a transitional period the question asked was: What do border regions of the Baltic States and Central European countries have in common? Second, in order to highlight differences between certain border regions of the said countries and their unique features the question asked was: What main factors determine the differences between border territories of the states chosen for the study? What kind of border region one could be talking about in each case studied?.
