ENCurrently, the work of theorists and practitioners focus their attention on issues related to a body image. Characterization of physical appearance in everyday life has come to play a significant role as the ideals of beauty have begun to take a turn in social environments at the same time the requirements to pursue and comply with them. Ideals of beauty, which are made relatively significant by the mass media, increase body dissatisfaction and motivates to pursue such ideals even more (Blond, 2008). According to T. F. Cash and his colleague T. Pruzinsky (2004), author of a plenty research methodology on a body image, body image is a perception of own body, approach to your body and experience related to body and its appearance. Positive body image and physical self are significant elements of wellbeing for adolescents (Brettschneider et al., 2002). Body image is an individualized matter and is of a multiple nature. Adolescents imagine a very concrete (specific) body image, which is related to imaginations of their own (Evans et al., 2008). Issues of a body image are the most complex during the adolescence. Adolescence is the period when an adolescent might feel confused for the changes taking place in his/her body. Such changes might evoke body image dissatisfaction (Baur et al., 2000).In order for an adolescent to feel happy, one should be able to adjust properly, overcome difficulties, one’s body image should be positive. (Vaičiulienė, 2004). When developing a positive body image, it is very important to acknowledge and respect a natural body shape, appearance, figure, learn to control negative thoughts and feelings. Body works as a path to recognition during the period of adolescence (Baur et al., 2000). Research objectives – to evaluate a positive body image in early adolescence. A modified questionnaire, based on V. Rittner (1986) and R. Russell (2004), A. Zaborskis et al. (1996), W. D. Brettschneider, T. Kleine, G. Klimek (2003) questionnaire models, was used. The questionnaire was focused on areas of body image (appearance; self-perception). The survey was carried out in four schools of Telšiai town during the physical education classes. In total 500 teenagers at the age of 12–14 were surveyed. Results revealed that generally perception of a body image for a majority of teenagers is positive. Girls tend to estimate themselves as more attractive than boys. Girls tend to be concerned with how they are perceived in the eyes of other people, tend to pay a greater attention to their body image (hair style, clothes should be matched and be tidy), and tend to watch themselves in a mirror more often. While boys, on the other hand, are more likely to demonstrate their body to others. Gender wise the tendency is that girls are more likely to finish what they have started and do it qualitatively, tend to be more sensitive, get nervous, anxious faster, are depressed, sad, puzzled, worried and struggle with many issues, however they feel more attractive and interesting.
