Summary / Abstract:

LTStraipsnyje plačiau analizuojama senojo geležies amžiaus (I–IV a.) baltų genčių ginkluotė, fortifikacija, apžvelgiami galėję būti kariniai konfliktai, stengiamasi palyginti baltų ginkluotę su kitų Europos genčių, pirmiausiai germanų, ginkluote. Nusakoma baltiškųjų etnokultūrinių grupių gyvenama teritorija senajame geležies amžiuje. Įvardinamas senasis geležies amžius buvo didelių permainų baltų gyvenamoje teritorijoje laikotarpis. Išskiriami pagrindiniai to meto procesai, kurie darė įtaką karybos raidai. Reikšminiai žodžiai: Baltai; Ginklų komplektai; Kariniai konfliktai; Karyba; Kovos būdai; Piliakalnių įtvirtinimai; Senasis geležies amžius; Senasis geležies amžius, archeologinės baltų kultūros, ginkluotė, kariniai konfliktai; Fortification of hillforts, sets of weapons; Military conflicts; Old Iron Age; Old Iron age, archeologic cultures of the balts, weaponry, war conflicts; The Balts; Warfare; Ways of fighting.

ENAn article contains an analysis of the weaponry and fortifications of the Baltic tribes in the Early Iron-age (1st–4th c.); also, the possible war conflicts are described. It is attempted to compare the Baltic weaponry with the weaponry of other European tribes, primarily with German one. The territory of the Baltic ethnocultural groups in the Early Iron-age is determined. The mentioned Early Iron-age was a period of huge changes in the Baltic territory. The main process that had influenced the development of the soldiership are distinguished. It is noted that during the first centuries after Christ, the extraction of iron from the local ore that was called the swamp ore was common in the Baltic territories. People learnt how to temper the iron and to make steely blades. The treatment technologies of nonferrous metals had improved. Also, some demographic and social processes took place in the Baltic tribes, these changes became noticeable in the middle Iron-age. It is important to emphasize that ethnocultural processes were happening in the early Iron-age. During the researches, various weapons of the early Iron-age that were intended for the weaponry of the Baltic tribes and fortifications were found in the mounds of the ancient settlements. The article presents the material collected by different researchers and contains a detailed analysis of the features of the Baltic mining and weaponry. It is interesting that different Baltic tribes had their own weaponry, fortifications and soldiership that was a feature of the early Iron-age. It is significant that the main types of mound fortifications appeared in the early Iron-age.
