Summary / Abstract:

Reikšminiai žodžiai: Baltijos jūra; Regionai; Radiniai; Archeologiniai; Amžius; Akmens; Gintaras; The Baltic; Archeology; Amber.

ENMost figurines, found during the archeological digs are attributed to the middle neolith. Only the five figurines, found in Abora I, Einiai and Tamula might be related to the late neolith. Such a small number of findings from the late Stone Age do not provide a possibility to accurately characterize the changes of style chronologically. One can distinguish the findings of Abora as an individual group, a specific group is formed by the statuettes, belonging to the middle Stone Age, found in the settlements by the Luban lake (although the statuette of a bird, found in Einiai could be dated as late neolith). With the exception of the Abora figurettes, circular statuettes and their fragments are found in the settlements of the late neolith. In certain settlements both circular and flat figurines were found. It is obvious that the circular and flat statuettes were made and used at the same time in the same settlements throughout the entire Stone Age. The “naturalistic” image of the moose head, found in Sarnatė settlement, distinguishes from other artifacts. Only the moose head from Šventoji 3 (Rimantienė 1979: 106 fig. 85, 86) and the findings of the Elniai isle (Olenij Ostrov, ...... 1956: 113-220) are analogical to it stylistically. The pose of the buried ones gives the possibilities to suppose that the other figurines were intended for hanging on headgear or a band. All the better-preserved circular figurines have or used to have holes for hanging. Such figurines were found by the skeletons of children (Tamula, Abora I) and a woman (Valma). The size of the figurines is from 1 to 7 cm, however, in the Curonian Spit some figurines of 10-14.5 cm height were found. Most of the figurines of the middle neolith are related to smithereens ceramics.
