Summary / Abstract:

ENThe present-day post-structural literary theories, which consider literature an act of communication, treat literary criticism as one of the specific social structures, surrounding the phenomena of literature. Such view is especially suitable when talking of the literary criticism of the Soviet times, i. e. the state control mechanism, used for keeping the ideological quality of literary production. The usual literary institutions, i. e. the writers’ union, publishing houses and literature publication editorial offices became mechanisms of rebroadcasting and strengthening of the Marxist ideology. The vision of the new literature was generalized by the social realism, i. e. the one and only legal artistic method. The official view of criticism as the executor of the policies of the party in the area of artistic culture remained unchanged throughout the entire Soviet period, despite the changing “thaws” and “freezes”. Only during the first decade of the post-war period the criticism routine completely coincided with the official provisions and later, as the politics of the totalitarian authorities became more liberal, the criticism became more autonomous, certainly not without conflicts of losses. The article makes attempts to outline more prominent moments of ideological manipulation of creators of literature. It is obvious that during the post-war times neither the writers, nor the critics, notwithstanding their ideological beliefs, were the real subjects of literary life. The former wrote against their will, describing the subjects, that they would never write about and using not their own language. The latter repeated the truths, dictated “from above”, alternating the requirements according to the latest resolutions of the Central Committee.
