ENThe past is the basis of any memory, but the content of memory is formed through communication between individuals, communities, memory carriers and media. Memory, regardless of whether it is a community or an Individual, is not created only under the influence of the past, which is preserved in memory carriers. Yes, past events are important, but communication plays a decisive role in the process of forming knowledge about the past. History tries to present what the past looked like, and the communication factor answers the fundamental question - why different communities perceive the same past differently. Including the communication factor in research on theactivities of the Polish armed underground in the Vilnius region in the years 1939-1945 allows for expanding the field of research. After all, in the process of building knowledge about the past, not only scientists participate, but also various communities, which, using memory carriers, not only expand knowledge about the past, but also are able to build alternative interpretations of events from the previous century.
